JR’S WHY NOT
*Baby laughter and small noises from John and Bill’s daughter can be heard in the background throughout the clip.
John: JR's it was still kind of divey. But, you know, he was very - very welcoming and, you know, just made you feel comfortable to be there and -
Bill: And he watched out for the patrons.
John: He did.
Bill: Wouldn’t allow any trouble, if any trouble was brewing. Which there would be trouble. You know, living in a community like this could be trouble but he would always defend the bar.
Lauren: What kind of trouble?
Bill: Well, people want to come in, fight with the gay people in the bar or meet you outside the bar, beat you up rob ya. You know, those type of things. So it could be risky too. When you live in a town like this, this size and this mentality. Gay bars are - you're at risk.
Lauren: Did you guys feel at risk when you were inside of them?
Bill: Yes John: Yes
Lauren: Did you feel kind of like it was not that safe to be there?
Bill: Yes. I think that you had to be astute to what's going on around you. So when you pull up to go in, you're looking, you know, when you come out you look out the door before you come out just to - but they also had a camera inside so you can see -
John: Who was at the front door.
Bill: Who was outside the front door. Yeah.
